Summary: "Works for me"

I do a number of family tax returns, nothing really heavy duty but it's comforting to have a reference (other than IRS publications) for questions that arise from time to time. Over the years, I have used CCH's Master Tax Guide for this purpose, but the price kept going up. For the 2009 tax returns, I decided to try J.K.Lasser's book. I found the content comparable to the Master Tax Guide, for a much more reasonable price - and plan to keep buying it. The only notable drawback is that the book is oversized and bulky, so it takes up more room in a briefcase and doesn't fit in a bookcase as neatly.

The book is well organized and cover topics thoroughly. The language is quite easy to understand. The book is quite large so i only read the sections that i needed to but it has information for everyone.

This book provides a good depth of subject matter as well as a wide range of subject matter. I was impressed. I like it better than the Master Tax Guide. It contains a good content guide as well as a good index which helps when locating an answer.

I have used J K Lasser's books for income taxes for many years. The books have been very beneficial in helping me to prepare for my taxes - in reporting taxes appropriately and in finding tax deductions. J. K. Lasser has provided me with better information then some tax professionals.
